About

The European Studies Consortium (ESC) at the University of Minnesota was established in the spring of 1999 in recognition of the University's growing strengths in European Studies. Its purpose is to promote and support inquiry into Europe related issues that engage scholars across disciplinary and collegiate borders. The consortium brings together a variety of European Studies centers from across the University for a closer, more structured and sustained collaboration to enhance the quality and intellectual impact of their programs.

The European Studies Consortium provides leadership and support for:

  • Teaching of any modern European less-commonly-taught languages
  • Instruction to provide and promote understanding of Europe, its regions, countries, societies, and cultures
  • Research and training in European studies
  • K-14 outreach and consultative services on topics related to Europe on a national, regional and local basis
  • Promotion of linkages with European institutions of higher education and other organizations that may contribute to the teaching and research of the Consortium
