Summer Dutch Institute 2008

The Summer Dutch Institute is a Dutch language program that rotates between the University of Minnesota and Indiana University. Students will complete an entire year of Beginning Dutch over the course of 10 weeks. In addition to the language courses weekly cultural events such as lectures on Dutch Culture, film screenings, field trips and social gatherings with the Dutch community in Minnesota will be arranged. The two courses will cover the equivalent of one-year of language study. Students will also be required to spend three hours a week being instructed in the language lab.
Enrollment
University of Minnesota undergraduate students should register for DTCH1001 and DTCH1002 and University of Minnesota graduate students should register for DTCH4001 and DTCH4002 via the normal registration process at One Stop.
Non-University of Minnesota students should contact the College of Continuing Education at the University of Minnesota to enquire about registration processes and tuition rates. Further information for non-degree seeking students can be found at the One Stop website.
Housing
Non-University of Minnesota students can arrange housing with the University of Minnesota Department of Housing and Residential Life. When contacting this department please note that the dates of the Summer Dutch Institute differ than the normal summer term. Be certain to note that in your housing application.
Tuition and Fees
Visiting students should contact the College of Continuing Education in regard to tuition and fees.
Exemptions for Non-admitted and Visiting Summer Students:
If you are a non-admitted (never admitted as a degree-seeking student) or visiting student from out-of-state, and you are registering as an undergraduate, you are exempt from paying nonresident tuition rates in the summer. This same exemption also applies to non-admitted and visiting students who register for graduate-level credits.
Scholarships and Fellowships
Students should investigate scholarship and fellowship opportunities on their home campuses. Graduate students from participating CIC institutions should consider the FLEP (Foreign Language Enhancement Program) fellowship opportunities. University of Minnesota graduate students should investigate the FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) fellowships.
