LCTL Curriculum Enhancement Grants
In order to support curriculum development and quality instruction of less commonly taught language (LCTL) programs at the University of Minnesota, the European Studies Consortium announces the “LCTL Curriculum Enhancement Grant Competition.” Awards will range from $1000 - $2000.

Eligibility:
- Must be a University of Minnesota Less Commonly Taught European Language instructor. Graduate Student Instructors are not eligible. University of Minnesota European LCTLs include – Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, and Turkish.
To Apply:
- Complete the application form.
- Provide a written summary (maximum 2 pages) of intended use of funds and learning objectives to be accomplished, considering the evaluation criteria below.
Evaluation Criteria:
- The rationale for the proposed materials to be developed.
- How the proposed materials will be used in the language classroom and at what level(s) of instruction.
- Dissemination plan for developed materials. Consider developing materials that can be posted to the CARLA LCTL Instructional Materials website. Discuss this or any other way the materials will be used by other teachers of the language.
- Timetable for development – can high quality materials be developed within the time frame required for material submission?

- Please also remember that all materials developed must have necessary copyright permissions in place to be disseminated.
Funding Restrictions/Award Process:
- Funds may be paid directly to the awardees in compensation for time spent on the development process. This will be paid out through payroll, and will be subject to income tax, or
- Funds may be paid to reimburse expenses incurred during the development process (language support materials, travel expenses, technological editing). The following restrictions will apply:
- All international travel must be approved by the US Department of Education 30-days in advance of proposed departure date, and in compliance with the Fly America Act.
- No equipment can be purchased with these funds (i.e., cameras, tape recorders)
